Change comes when we work together.
Nothing is usual about the times we are in, or the situation our businesses are facing.
It is also during the harshest periods that we tend to reflect on life and how intentional we are about our actions. Now, certainly qualifies as one of these moments that deserves pondering!!
Isolation has become the norm, socially distancing ourselves from the people we love and interact with daily. Our kids’ schools are closed to mitigate the propagation of the Covid-19.
We find ourselves re-evaluating, questioning the status quo. Many of us, adjusting to this new reality. Many of us, with so many unanswered questions — how long will this last? What will be the outcome? Will things go back to how they used to be?
One thing that has really shaken me to the core is how fragile we have become. So many of us have been affected, some have been luckier than others.
Keeping healthy should not be understated. It should be a necessity.
Healthy should be part of our daily lives.
Many of us put a lot of effort into staying healthy. We exercise regularly; we try to stay away from processed foods, and that is essential. But, what I am referring to is much more deeply rooted; my concern stems from the quality of the food available to us. The nutritional value available to our bodies to extract from the products we consume. Unfortunately, a subject rarely addressed.
We must pay more attention to the quality of the food we consume. It is unfortunate but true that since early 1900, the food we have been eating has lost much of its nutritious content. Multiple studies on the quality of nutrients exist, and their results are discouraging.
One of these studies asserts that today, we would need to eat eight times as many oranges to get the same amount of nutrients out of an orange our grandparents would have eaten at a young age.
The same goes for other fruits and vegetables.
Why is that?
Through the last century, the most used farming techniques, such as the use of inorganic fertilizers, have depleted our soil of most if not all, of its organic matter. In turn, affecting its capacity to grow nutrient-rich produce.
I have the utmost respect for growers and farmers; without them, none of us would have anything to eat. Their hard work allows our survival. But over the past century, most common agricultural techniques have harmed the human race.
It is time for us to realize that and be proactive about it. As we tell ourselves, “Man is best described by how he learns from his mistake,” the same should apply to Society.
Being able to eat nutrient-rich produce should not be a privilege for a selected few, it should be the norm.
Doing so would improve our health tenfold.
It would make our bodies healthier and more resilient to viruses and sicknesses that are holding us hostage.
Our efforts must go to the source, fueled by a preventative mindset rather than a reactive one.
Let’s not allow for our current situation to be forgotten in vain and let’s become a healthier society.
